General Description
Location: The Port of Kure is situated on the island of Honshu, within the Inland Sea.
General overview: The Port of Kure boasts a sheltered natural harbor, encompassing regions such as Kure, Hiro, Nigata, and Yoshiura. It serves as a hub for industry, housing shipbuilding yards and steel works, while specializing in the import of iron ore, timber, wood chips, and coke, as well as the export of iron, machinery, paper, and lumber.
The port features various wharves equipped with unique capabilities, including:
- West Kawaraishi Wharf (260m // Depth 7.5m // Capable of berthing 2 5000DWT)
- The under-construction East Jetty (with 10m of Depth)
- Central Wharf (a boat wharf in the heart of the city)
- Wugang Shipyard Wharf
- Municipal Government's No. 1 Wharf (150m // Depth 9m // Capable of berthing 15000DWT)
- Wharf No. 3 of West Japan Iron and Steel Works offers 297m of berthing space and a depth of 18 meters, suitable for 150000 DWT ore carriers. This wharf is located on the southwestern bank of the harbor peninsula, near the steel works.
The harbor also has three buoys available for mooring 10000 DWT vessels.
