General Description
Location: Situated on the E coast of Scotland. General overview: Within the area of Firth of Forth, Scotland, there are the major ports of Leith, Grangemouth, Rosyth, the oil terminal at Hound Point and the gas terminal at Braefoot (see separate entries). There are 40 pier and tidal harbours as well as good anchorages on both sides of the bridge. Traffic figures: Forth Ports plc annually handle approx 5,000 ship movements, 139,000TEU and 36,690,000t of cargo, mostly oil, petrochemicals and liquefied gases, which pass through the port of Grangemouth and the two marine terminals at Hound Point and Braefoot, but these figures also include a very considerable trade in more general cargo at Grangemouth and the other ports.
