General Description
Location: The port of Victoria is situated approx 15nm W of Douala.
General overview: Victoria, otherwise known as Limbe, is an anchorage port with two self-propelled craft and other dumb lighters towed by one tug. Cargo to and from the lighters is worked at one quay by 3 x 3mt cranes. The main cargo handled includes cocoa, palm oil, palm kernel, rubber, coffee, tea, and black pepper.
The port comprises a berthing dock spanning 750 m and 5 warehouses of 1640 m2 each. It also has a transit shed with a slipway and a timber stacking yard.
Nowadays, petroleum goods are being handled as the city houses Cameroon’s largest oil refinery, followed by timber. A new shipyard has been constructed recently to allow the repair and maintenance of oil tankers.
Traffic figures: 20,000 tonnes of cargo pass through Limbe annually.
