General Description
Location: Shakhtersk port lies at the head of Zaliv Gavrilova, on the W coast of Sakhalin Island.
General overview: The port, which is closed due to ice in the winter, consists of a roadstead, Reyd Shakhtersk, and a basin protected by breakwaters for small vessels. The principle cargo is coal, the cargo is transferred in the roads to barges using ship's own handling gear.
Load line zone: Summer Zone for vessels over LOA 100m, Winter Seasonal Area for vessels LOA 100m or less. Winter 1 Dec to 28/29 Feb, Summer, 1 Mar to 30 Nov.
Max size: In fair weather vessels with a max draught of 2.5m can berth on the outer side of the N breakwater. Max depth at anchorage in the roads is 19.0m.
