General Description
Location: The Port of Karaikal is situated on the E Coast of India in Karaikal District of Pondicherry, about 300km S of Chennai Port.
General overview: MARG Karaikal Port is expected to have a total of 9 berths capable of handling 47,000,000mtpa by 2018. The Port hosts various other infrastructure facilities such as covered warehousing, open storage and Mobile Harbour Cranes. Karaikal is planning to be developed in 3 phases with the final phase becoming operational in 2017.

The private port has been built to handle Panamax size vessels initially up until 2012 and Capesize vessels thereafter. The port will primarily handle cement and coal to serve the hinterland of Ariyalur, Perambalur and Tiruchi.
The port has also started a feeder container service to Colombo.
