General Description
Location: The Port of Kushiro is situated in the center of the eastern coast of Hokkaido island.
General overview: The Port of Kushiro is the premier commercial harbor on the Eastern coast of Hokkaido. The Kushiro River bisects the port into East and West harbors, each with its own unique offerings.
The East Harbor boasts passenger and cruise facilities, handles coal and general cargo, and is the hub of the fishing industry.
Meanwhile, the West Harbor is a deep water port that specializes in the handling of grain, woodchips, dairy products, paper and pulp, petroleum, and heavy oil.
The port is equipped with coal loaders, grain loaders, and woodchip distributors, as well as cranes.
Two sets of breakwaters protect the harbor and ensure a safe and secure environment for vessels. The harbor depth varies between 8.7m and 14.3m, with a sandy seabed except for a rocky area in the southeast.
