General Description
Location: Lowestoft is a small port located on the E coast of England. General overview: The port consists of an Outer and Inner Harbour with a total berth length of 3,500m. These harbours accommodate cargo vessels, fishing vessels, offshore supply/standby vessels, ship repair and pleasure craft. Outer harbour, Hamilton and Waveney docks accommodate the fishing, offshore fabrication industries and aggregate imports. There are general and bulk cargo berths located in the inner harbour. Lowestoft is one of the nearest ports to the oil and gas fields of the Southern Basin of the North Sea and is an important offshore supply and support centre. It offers extensive facilities for the construction of large topside deck structures and jackets destined for the North Sea and other oil and gas fields. Traffic figures: Approx 500,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.
