General Description
Location: Santo Domingo is located on the W bank of the Ozama River on the S coast of the island. General overview: Santa Domingo is the capital city and main port of the Dominican Republic. The port, in conjunction with Rio Haina, handles the majority of import traffic to the country. The port also handles: Sugar (the major export), grain, coffee, tobacco, bananas and oil, in addition there are modern facilities for cruise vessels. Traffic figures: Approx 400 vessels, 275,000t of cargo and 100,000 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Nov 1 to Jul 15, Summer Jul 16 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA 228.6m, beam 30.4m, draught 8.8m.
