Location: Santa Marta is situated on the Caribbean coast approx 50nm ENE of Barranquilla and includes the port area of Cienaga.
General overview: Santa Marta is an expanding commercial port, with quays in a cove, forming an inner harbour at its NE end. There are 7 cargo berths available for handling coal, vegetable oils, containers, bulk liquids, general cargoes and an increasing amount of cruise ships.
Puerto Prodeco, a coal terminal, 15km from Santa Marta is shown as a separate port.
Traffic figures: Approx 1,000 vessels and 3,325,000t of cargo handled annually.

Max size: Alongside: Panamax vessels, LOA 230m, draught 12.1m, beam 32.3m, 77,000DWT. Anchorage: LOA 300m, beam 40m, max draught 20m (arrival) no restriction (departure).
