General Description
Location: Maracaibo is situated in Bahia de Maracaibo on the W side of the primary channel 20 miles S of San Carlos pilot station. General overview: It is a natural port and a port of entry for all terminals located on the W and E shores. A total of 12 berths are available, 8 of which are operational, primarily for general cargoes and bulk grain. The coal terminal has a Floating Storage Transfer Station (FSTS) Bulkwayuu which is permanently moored by means of chains lines in the "La Calsada" area, 10°43.5'N 071°33.5'W (see separate entry).
Traffic figures: Approx 750 vessels visit the port annually, handling approx 1,321,000t of cargo. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Harbour: Draught 10.0m. FSTS Bulkwayuu: LOA 300m, beam 44m, draught 11.2m (currently restricted to 10.8m) hatch cover airdraught 14.5m.
