General Description
Location: Larne is located on the NE coast of Northern Ireland at the entrance to Larne Lough. General overview: The port is positioned in a sheltered harbour and has 6 quays totalling 801m. Facilities are provided for containers and dry bulk cargoes such as wood pulp, timber, fertilisers and stone, though the port is mainly a passenger/Ro-Ro port. Machinery and electrical goods are the principal exports. P&O European Ferries operate 15 passenger, car and freight crossings to Cairnryan, 3 daily freight services to Fleetwood and a freight sailing daily to Troon. Altogether the harbour handles up to 38 ferry arrivals and departures per day. Traffic figures: Approx 4,830,000t of cargo, 830,000 passengers and 385,000 vehicles handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA 175m, draught 9.2m.
