General Description
Location: Flensburg is the most N'ly port in Germany, with border access to Denmark and situated at the head of Flensburg Fjord, 16nm from the Flensburger Foerde Buoy. General overview: The total area covers 119ha, with a land area of 9ha. The port extends about 1nm N and S and 0.3nm E and W, with the docks situated on both sides. In very severe winters the port has been known to freeze over. The principal cargoes handled are feedstuffs, coal, fuel oil, stone chips, fertiliser, grain and general cargo. Traffic figures: Approx 540,000t of cargo, 930,000 passengers and 200 vessels handled annually. Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Seasonal Area for ships of 100m or less in length, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Draught 8.5m.
