Location: Port of Spain, located on the N coast of the island of Trinidad in the NE corner of Gulf of Paria, is the capital city and chief dry cargo port of Trinidad and Tobago. General overview: The harbour has easy access by day or night, with the largest ships able to enter or lie at anchor within 2.7nm of the shore. There are four main wharf sections: King's Wharf, King's Wharf Extension, the Container Terminal and Queen's Wharf. Vessels accommodated include general cargo vessels, cruise vessels, containerships and inter island vessels. The port has extensive repair, bunkering facilities and stores suppliers. Exports: Sugar, molasses, rum, cocoa, coconuts, citrus fruits and coffee. Imports: Timber, clothing, foodstuffs and manufactured products. Traffic figures: Approx 300 vessels, 550,000t of cargo and 310,000TEU handled annually. Also approx 860,000 Inter Island ferry passengers and 320,000 cruise ship passengers handle annually.
