General Description
Location: The Port of Sapangar Bay is situated on the NW coast of Sabah.
General overview: The Port of Sapangar Bay is a secure harbor located on the northwest coast of Borneo, with several industrial sites in the vicinity. It comprises of two terminals; the Sapangar Bay Container Port (SBCP) and the Sapangar Bay Oil Terminal (SBOT).
- SBCP is a premier transhipment hub positioned along the busy shipping routes between Far East and Europe. It has taken over the container operations from Kota Kinabalu Port and is located in the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region.
- SBOT is a dedicated terminal for refined petroleum and chemical products and is surrounded by major oil and gas facilities such as Shell, Esso, and Petronas. A 20 million Ringgit expansion plan is underway to add more berths and facilities to accommodate larger tankers and supply of bunker and fresh water.
Additionally, a nearby two-berth jetty is equipped to handle cement and the export of timber.

Traffic figures: Approx. 620 vessels, 2,800,00t of cargo and 500,000TEU handled annually. Within these figures, the oil terminal handled 336 vessels and 941,000t of liquid cargo.
