General Description
Location: The Port of Sandakan is situated in northeasten part of Sabah, facing the Sulu Sea.
General Overview: The Port of Sandakan is a busy port with six berths for ferries, general, bulk palm oil and crude oil cargoes. The port complex has berths on four sides of its head and a transit shed at the centre.
It is the second busiest port in Sabah, with a focus on palm oil-related products, container, general cargo and dry bulk. Timber vessels are loaded from anchorage, making it the largest timber export port in the state.
The port also handles passenger ferries and exports other materials such as rubber, coffee, cocoa, pepper, and aquatic products. The port city has risen due to the export of timber logging.
