General Description
Location: Oskarshamn is situated on the W side of Kalmarsund, approx 135nm SSW of Stockholm. General overview: A sheltered, natural and modern port with good water depth and good anchorage at the entrance (15.0m depth). Good road and rail connections (Highroad E22 and R34 railway) and regular ferry services to Gotland. The harbour is normally free from ice though icebreakers are occasionally used. Oskarshamn is one of the largest export harbours for timber products in Sweden and has the capacity to load and unload five 20-40,000DWT ships simultaneously. Cargo handled: Timber, sawn timber, paper, bulk cargo, containers and oil. Traffic figures: Approx 1,300,000t cargo and 310 vessels handled annually. Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA 215m, draught 10.5m, beam 35m, 65,000DWT.
