General Description
Location: Makassar, one of the major ports in Indonesia, is situated on the SW coast of the island of Sulawesi. General overview: It is the port of Ujung Pandang, the capital of S Sulawesi province. A sheltered area is available in the inner harbour close to the shore. The principal exports are coffee, gum, shells, rubber, wood, spices, rattan, tortoise shell, tripang and copra. The main imports are cotton and woollen goods, hardware, glassware, tobacco, groceries, wines and spirits. There are regular ferry services to other parts of Sulawesi.
