General Description
Location: The port of Kokkola (alternatively known as Ykspihlaja) is a medium sized port, situated in the Gulf of Bothnia.
General overview: Kokkola is one of the deepest ports in Finland and has three port areas namely, the general port, including an all weather berth, the Deep Port and the Silverstone Port. The port specializes in the handling of dry bulk, chemicals and timber. There are zinc and fertilizer plants situated close to the port.
- Deep Harbor (Syväsatamaa)
Specializes in bulk cargoes and has a capacity of up to 7 million tons annually. Consists of:
- 8 Cranes (40t to 50t)
- 35,000 m2 Warehouse
- Conveyor Pallet (40,000 t/day)
- Home Port
Mainly handles containers and general cargo. Consists of:
- Multipurpose storage 48,000 m2.
- 4 Cranes (8t to 50t)
- Silver Stone Harbor
Handles light bulk such as limestone, fertilizers, aluminum clay.
Consists of:
- Gottwald Crane (140t)
- Gottwald 2 Crane (150t)
- 2 Cranes (8t & 40t)
Cargoes:
Imports: Zinc concentrates, oil, limestone and iron pellets (transit to Russia).
Exports: Pyrites, timber, chemicals and zinc.
Traffic figures: Approx. 530 vessels and 5,000,000t of cargo handled annually.
Load line zone:
- Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length
- Winter Seasonal Area for ships of 100m or less in length
- Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31
- Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.
Max size: Draught 14m // 80,000DWT.
