General Description
Location: The port is located approximately 8 km. S of San Nicolas
General overview: Ingeniero Buitrango is a subport of San Nicolas.
Facilities: 680 m. wharf for discharging bulk coal and mineral ores by grab from rail mounted overhead cranes (2x10 tons and 1x16 tons). Discharge rate for coal is 7,500 tons per day and for ore 10,000 tons per day. Depth alongside the north end is approximately 9.14 m. At the south end, the depth is less and requires regular dredging. Work is carried out in 3x8 hour shifts and Siderar employs all its own labour. At the south end of the wharf is a dolphin berth, consisting of 4 dolphins, 35 m. apart, with bollards on the 1st and 4th. Used mainly to discharge coal lightered to self-discharging barges from colliers in the roads in the River Plate.
Berths: South of the Ramallo brook, and comes under the district of Ramallo, although administered by San Nicolas port authorities.
