General Description
Location: On the E bank of Uruguay River, 335 km. WNW of Montevideo, 3 km. up the Uruguay River.
General overview: There are two "L" shaped wharves, situated 2nm N of Punta Gorda. The principal cargoes handled are cereals, citrus fruits, Manganese and iron ore bulk cargoes, wood and its derivatives. Transshipment cargoes are barged from Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay, stored and loaded onto ocean going vessels.
Berths:
External port max. draft 9.75 m., internal port max. draft 5.0 m. The port has the Official Quay and the quay owned by Navios Corporation.
-Official Quay: Length 320 m., 240 m. designed for bulk cargo, S platform 80 m., width 21 m.
-Navios Corporation Transfer Station: operated by Corporacion Navios.
Overview: Navios Corporation is a private company that owns and operates a Transfer Station located in Nueva Palmira Free Zone.
Facilities: Unloading, storage and loading of materials in bulk, such as ore and grains. For these services, there are two docks (one for barges and the other for vessels and barges), cranes, conveyor systems, warehouses and stockpile.
-Terminales Graneleras Uruguayas SA used for bulk cargo.
Facilities: Conveyor belt and cranes for grains; storage silos with a 72,000 ton capacity and automatic environmental control for bulk cereal storage
