General Description
Location: Bossaso port, also known as Bender Cassim (Qaasim), is located in the S part of the Gulf of Aden, on the NE coast of Somalia.
General overview: The port consists of an inner basin, aligned N/S, protected from N by a mole wich extends about 420m W; a light (red column with ladder) is exhibited from the head of the mole. On the W side of the port a breakwater extends about 200m NE from the shore. Main exports are cattle. Imports include cement, sugar, rice and construction materials. Cranes, forklifts, trailers are privately owned. Port has 6 forklifts that belong to private people and they carry from 20 – 40 mt capacity. From the middle of June to the middle of September every year, due to the strong wind and waves, it stops opening.
