General Description
Location: Jacksonville (Jaxport) is located in NE Florida, the city being situated on St John's River some 24nm from the Atlantic Ocean.
General overview: The port has four main facilities along the banks of the river, the Blount Island Marine Terminal (9nm inland), the Ed Austin Terminal on Dames Point (10nm inland), where a wide variety of containerised cargoes are handled, the Talleyrand Docks and Terminals (21nm inland), and Commodore Point Terminal.
The port also handles general cargo, vehicles, bulk and Ro-Ro traffic. Exports: Include paper products, phosphate rock, fertilisers, chemicals, citrus products, naval stores, tallow, clay, scrap metal, feeding stuffs and general cargo.
Imports: Include petroleum products, coffee, iron and steel products, limestone, pulpwood, cement, vehicles, lumber, chemicals, alcoholic drinks and general cargo.
Traffic figures: Approx 1,800 vessels, 8,309,000t of cargo, 710,000TEU and 130,000 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: LOA no restriction, draught 11.5m.
