General Description
Location: La Goulette lies approx 9km NE of Tunis, on the coast of the Gulf of Tunis and is connected to the capital and the sea via dredged canal and channel.
General overview: The port is equipped for handling most types of vessel, including general cargo, bulk ore, cereals, phosphates, tankers, containers and Ro-Ro passenger and cruise ships. La Goulette is approached through a 6,400m dredged channel and the harbour is sheltered by N and S breakwaters containing the fishing harbour and the commercial port.
La Goulette Cruise Port features berths with a total of 657mtr which enable the port to receive the mega ships such as Oasis, Excellence and Meraglivia-plus class cruise ships. In addition to its transit and cruise activities, the port of La Goulette also receives ships carrying homogeneous cargos: cars, bulk cereals, various products. However, the development plan of the port provides for its specialization as a port exclusively reserved for passenger and tourist traffic.
Traffic figures: Approx 1,280 vessels, 714,000 passengers, 752,000 cruise tourists, and 636,000t of cargo handled annually.
