General Description
Location: Zante (also known as Zakinthos) is situated on the E coast of Zante Island, to the W of the Greek mainland. General overview: The harbour is artificial and protected by two outer moles. Agios Nikolaos, the N mole extends SE from the middle part of the town for 500m then curves SSE for a further 220m The centre of this mole has been widened to form a pier 67m by 35m from the SE face of which a rubble breakwater extends 100m at right angles to the mole. Agios Dionisios, the main quay to the S, extends NE from the S part of the town for 350m where it branches into two arms. The N arm extends N for 150m, the S arm extends 90m SE. A new outer mole has been built to the S of this area to form a small protected harbour to the W of the main port entrance. The port is mainly used by passenger/car ferries and depths are not static due to silting. The main exports are currants, olive oil, wine, and farm produce. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: LOA 100m, draught 5.0m.
