General Description
Location: Port of Wellington is situated at the S end of the North Island of New Zealand. General overview: It is a natural harbour with an area in excess of 7,700ha. The harbour shoreline extends for approx 50km and is flanked by high hills providing added shelter to shipping. Principal imports: Petroleum products, steel, wheat, vehicles, phosphate, soda ash, bananas, paper and general manufactured imports. Principal exports: Timber, fish, scrap steel, dairy products, wool, fruit, vegetables, meat, woodpulp and general manufactured exports. Traffic figures: Approx 13,000 vessels, 3,807,000t of cargo, 90,000TEU and 1,500,000 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: Draught 11.3m MHW. Maximum size of vessel handled: "Sapphire Princess", LOA 290m, 115,875GT has berthed alongside.
