General Description

Location: The Port of Sasebo is situated on the E coast of Kyushu in Sasebo-wan, Songpu Peninsula. General overview: The Port of Sasebo is a deep-water port located on the western coast of Kyushu, Japan, with a strong naval presence. The harbor is well-protected from typhoons by a screen of islands and is equipped to accommodate a range of vessels and cargo types. The main wharves at the port include: The Vertical Extension Wharf, which is located at the top of the bay and around the dock basin. It has nine berths with a water depth of 10.6 meters, capable of berthing 20,000 DWT ships. The wharf is equipped with six 15 DWT loaders and is home to both the US Navy and Sasebo Heavy Industry Co. The Chiqi Wharf, located on the north of the west coast of the harbor, has three berths with a total length of 518 meters and a water depth of 12 meters. It can securely accommodate 30,000 DWT ships and serves as an oil terminal for the US Department of Transportation. The Yokohama, Anzaki and Yuanchuan Oil Tanker Trestle Terminals located in the south of the port can accommodate 20,000 DWT vessels. The Dang Wharf on the east bank has two berths with a length of 185 meters and 195 meters respectively and a water depth of 10-11 meters. It can securely accommodate 30,000 DWT ships and is a public wharf in the port. Lightering can be carried out at the port and bunkers can be supplied by barge. In addition, the Sasebo shipyard is located to the west of the Vertical Extension Wharf.
