General Description
Location: Rasco Harbour is situated on the N African coast on the SW shore of the Gulf of Sidrah (Sirta) and approx 600km E of Tripoli. For offshore oil terminal information see entry for Ras Lanuf. General overview: Rasco Harbour is a modern artificial oil harbour protected from the N by Main breakwater and from the E by Lee breakwater. The terminal consists of three piers, each having two berths of finger jetties and a quay wharf of 672m. Caution: Due to the existence of a fish in this area known as the Weaver fish, vessels crew are advised to exercise caution if fishing in the port area. The fish has a dorsal fin with spines containing poisonous venom. The poison causes extreme pain and may lead to severe medical complications. Traffic figures: Approx 500 vessels handled annually.
