General Description
Location: Port Nador (Beni Ensar) is the principal Moroccan Mediterranean port, situated S of Melilla. General overview: It is a medium size commercial and fishing harbour with good facilities for handling general cargo, Ro-Ro, bulk and tanker traffic. Principal cargoes handled include iron ore, barites, coal, petroleum products, LPG and agricultural produce. The harbour is enclosed by a breakwater, with a length of over 2,500m. The NW side of the port is formed by Dique Sur, while the E side is protected by Dique Principale, an angled mole, the inner part of which is parallel with Dique Sur and approx 0.6nm E. The head of Dique Principale lies approx 0.5nm SE of the head of Melilla's Dique del Nordeste. Traffic figures: Approx 1,000 vessels and 400,000 passengers are handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: LOA 200m; draught 10.7m, approx 60,000DWT.
