General Description
Location: The port of Punta Ubu is located on the coast of the state of Espirito Santo approx. 40nm S of Vitoria. The nearest town to the port is Guarapari, approx. 15 mins to the N by car.
General overview: The port is owned and operated by Samarco Mineracao SA for the handling of iron ore. The Ponta Ubu Terminal, a pier of 308m, consists of 2 parallel placed berths W and E side.
The iron ore is extracted from the mine in Germano, they mix it with water (iron ore pulp) through a pipeline. They load to the vessel with a shiploader that has its own conveyor belt and boom (Loading rate = 12,500 t/h)
