General Description
Location: Umea is situated at the head of Umeafjarden, 1nm from the fjord entrance. General overview: The port's main berthing areas are situated at the S end of Osterfjarden close to Holmsund and consist of, Umea Hamn, Hillskar Ferry Terminal, Stormskar and Obbola Oil Terminals. The port, which specialises in handling all types of forest products, also handles general cargo, dry cargo, oil, containers and daily passenger ferries to Finland. Vessels up to 10.2m draught can be accommodated in Umeafjarden outer harbours where facilities are available for unloading and loading either at anchor or alongside. Railway and road connections with the harbour are excellent. Traffic figures: Approx 2,000 vessels, 2,000,000t of cargo and 600,000 passengers are handled annually. Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Dry Cargo: LOA 215m, beam 33m, draught 10.2m. Tankers (Oil Quay): LOA 215m, beam 33m, draught 10.2m, 55,000DWT. (Obbola Oil Harbour): LOA 200m, draught 10.2m, 45,000DWT. Largest vessel handled: "Golden Trader", dry cargo, 56,242DWT.
