Location: Situated on the N shore of Long Island Sound approx 114km E of New York. General overview: New Haven is the chief commercial port of Connecticut, with a large waterborne trade. The principal exports are petroleum products, coal, and scrap iron. Imports are steel, lumber, gypsum. rock salt, petro chemicals and rubber. Traffic figures: Approx 5,100,000t handled annually. Load line zone: Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Seasonal Area for ships of 100m or less in length, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.
