General Description
Location: The port is situated on the SE coast of Somalia.
General overview: Mogadiscio is the capital and principal port of Somalia. The port is formed by a large artificial breakwater providing 6 berths for deep sea vessels. It is reported that the port of Mogadiscio re-opened in August 2006 after more than 11 years and is now able to accept vessels of up to 8,000DWT. Whilst the port was closed, alternative operations for discharging and loading were being conducted by a lighterage system in El Maan Harbour, 17nm NE of Mogadiscio, in approx position 02°09.9'N 045°35.6'E.
The Conventional Berth is able to accomodate the vessels with LOA up to 160 m. The maximum draft alongside is 10 m. The vessel which berth at the Container Quay need to have the draft up to 9 m. Crude oil is handled Berth №3. Bagged cargoes and Ro-Ro vessels are accomodated at berths № 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6. 3 warehouses of 5,000 m² each and 1 Open Storage are available.
