General Description
Location: Iloilo is located on the SE coast of Panay Island, opposite Guimaras Island. General overview: The port of Iloilo is considered the leading trade and commercial hub for Western Visayas. Iloilo has subports at Culasi (11°35'N 122°45'E), Dumaguit (11°36'N 122°30'E), San Jose (10°44'N 121°56'E), Estancia (11°27'N 123°09'E) and Jordan (see separate entry). Guimaras forms a sheltered passage which is the approach to Iloilo, vessels should approach via the S entrance of the channel. The channel is approx 4km wide and provides good anchorage with deep water and mud and sand bottom. Traffic figures: Approx 5,060,000t of cargo, 85,660TEU, 20,100 vessels and 2,461,500 passengers handled annually. Load line zone: China Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical 21 Jan to Apr 30, Summer May 1 to Jan 20. Max size: Largest vessel handled: "World Umpire", 28,268GT.
