General Description
Location: Corinto is the principal port of Nicaragua, located on the Pacific coast. The port lies at the mouth of Rio Realejo, which flows into the sea close N of Punta Castanones.
General overview: Facilities are available for general cargo vessels and tankers with cargoes ranging from bananas, sugar and cotton to oil and manufactured goods. Ships use their own gear for cargo handling. No fuel oil, diesel, kerosene or gasoline is available. Water is available, but during the dry season (Jan to end of Jun) supplies may be unobtainable.
Traffic figures: Approx 270 vessels visit the port, 1,600,000t of cargo and 7,000TEU handled annually.
