General Description
Location: Bermeo is located on the N coast of the Iberian peninsula, approx 20nm from Bilbao.
General overview: An important fishing harbour developing rapidly as a commercial port. There is heavy fishing traffic from Mar-Jun, due to seasonal fishing in the area. The port is located at the area of 10,000 sq.m. with 6,000 sq.m. and 660 m pier length. Bermeo has 415 berths, 350 of which are less than 8 m and the remaining 65 are more than 8 m long. There is also a marina located outside of the harbour which can accomodate 180 vessels with the draft up to 3 m. The Cargo Terminal, which operated by Marbeco S.A., comprises up to 5 berthing lines and is capable of handling vessels up to 7.0 m draft, 125 m LOA and 5,500/6,000 DWT. Main cargoes handled are general cargo, steel, paper, aluminium, transformed wood pulp and palletised cargo. The terminal is also specialised in project cargoes and heavy lifts.
Traffic figures: Approx 300 vessels and 400,000t of cargo handled at the port annually.
Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.
Max size: LOA 110 m, draught 6.5 m.
