Location: The port area is located near the city of Vinh, 12nm up the Song Ca River, approx 150nm S of Hanoi in the Gulf of Tonkin. General overview: Nghe Tinh's total port are comprises 227,800 m2 of which 19,000 m2 are used for cargoes warehousing and 180,500 m2 are used as an open storage. The port has two port areas, namely Ben Thuy and Xuan Hai areas. Ben Thuy involved in shipbuilding and repair, with two cargo handling berths. Xuan Hai has one quay handling general cargo. There is also a transshipment area, Hon Ngu Transshipment Area, which handles deep-draft vessels. Traffic figures: Approx 1,000 vessels, 1,500,000t of cargo and 14,000TEU handled annually. Load line zone: China Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Jan 21 to Apr 30, Summer May 1 to Jan 20. Max size: -Ben Thuy: LOA 100m, draught 4.5m, 1,500DWT. Vessels over 4.5m draught discharge at anchor off the entrance of Song Ca into self propelled barges. -Cua Lo: Draught 7.5m, 15,000DWT. Breakbulk: 2,000 g.t., draft 5.0 m., depth 5.0 m. Bulk: 2,000 g.t., draft 5.0 m., depth 5.0 m. Tankers: Depth 8.0 m.
