General Description
Location: The port of Antofagasta lies approx 2nm S and 4nm N of Ciudad de Antofagasta, and 105 miles N of Puerto Taltal. General overview: Antofagasta has a good artificial harbour which is exposed to heavy S and W'ly ocean swell. A transit port for Bolivian and Argentine cargo. The port has seven berths varying in size. Container and general cargo are primarily handled through the port which has facilities for bulk, oil, liquefied gas and Ro-Ro cargo. The oil terminals of Caleta del Cobre Norte and Fondeadero Sur are close, N and S respectively, of the port. Traffic figures: Approx 1,500,000t of general cargo handled annually.
