General Description
Location: Langøya is an island located in the Oslofjord, south of the capital, accessible by a short boat ride from Holmestrand.
General Overview: Langøya island is mainly composed of limestone, making it exceptional in the crystalline rocks of Norway. The limestone was quarried for centuries, resulting in a large quarry covering almost the whole island.
Currently, Langøya is utilized as a landfill for hazardous inorganic waste, primarily industrial acid, fly ash, and other inorganic hazardous waste from the Norwegian industry.
This landfill helps to prevent the emission of environmental toxins from the Norwegian industry into the natural environment.
