General Description
Location: The port of Silloth is located on the English side of the Solway Firth, to the N of Workington and Maryport. General overview: The port was built to serve the City of Carlisle and the surrounding North Cumbria and "Borders" area. Commodities handled include, grains, fertilisers, feedstuffs, molasses, cement, aggregates, palletised foodstuffs, palletised building materials, livestock and loose bagged cargoes, etc. Traffic figures: Approx 150,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Max LOA 90m, beam 13.5m, draught 6.0m. Vessels up to LOA 95m may be accepted dependent on the condition of the vessel and weather. Largest vessel handled: "Anmi", 3,900t of fertiliser discharged.
