General Description
Location: This port is situated 48km SW of Carlisle on the NW coast of England. General overview: The port, the largest in Cumbria, consists of a tidal wharf, only used by fishing and small vessels and a wet dock for commercial vessels consisting of the Prince of Wales Dock, some 300m x 98m. There are facilities for heavy lift projects, Ro-Ro, fishing and cruise vessels. Imports and exports chiefly coal, steel products, chemicals, petroleum products, phosphoric acid, scrap, timber, perlite and general cargo. Traffic figures: Approx 250 vessels and 200,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Prince of Wales Dock: LOA 137.2m, beam 20.4m, draught 6.8m up to 8.5m HWS, 12,000DWT. Largest vessel handled: "Swee Lean", 12,048DWT, logger vessel.
