General Description
Location: The Port of Sibu is situated on the Rajang River, Sarawak, 82km from the sea.
General overview: The Port of Sibu is a major commercial and financial center in Sarawak, known for its timber logging and related industries. The port has facilities for general and bulk cargo, including timber, rice, and oil.
It is also a significant shipbuilding and repair port. Recently, the port has experienced growth in container traffic, and new equipment has been installed to accommodate this development.
The port has four general cargo-container berths that can accommodate two ships each up to 154m in length. While there is no designated Ro/Ro berth, the general cargo berths are used for this purpose.
The port also has two oil tanker berths, one each for New Jersey Mobil Oil Company and Shell Oil Company, with a short pipeline connecting them.
Traffic figures: Approx. 200,000t of dry cargo, 500,000t of container cargo and 450,000t of bulk fuel oil are handled annually.
