The shipping platform

Location: Matane is located on the S shore of the St Lawrence River, approx 400km E of Quebec City. General overview: The harbour is enclosed between 2 breakwaters, which extend approx 0.5nm offshore. The port comprises several marine installations under different ownership. The Commercial wharf area, which includes Berth 1, West breakwater and spur wharf, are owned by Transport Canada. Transport Quebec owns the East breakwater and marshalling yard. The spur wharf is used to moor laid up and overwintering vessels. Quebec Port Terminals Inc. operate Berth 1. The main cargoes handled include, oil products, calcium, lumber and paper products. Traffic figures: Approx 700,000t of cargo is handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.
