General Description
Location: Marsden Point is situated on the E coast of the N part of North Island in Bream Bay. General overview: Marsden Point deepwater port, at the entrance to Whangarei Harbour, has two oil jetties and 0.5nm upstream, a timber/general cargo quay with 2 berths. Portland has one jetty serving the cement works. It is reported that Whangarei Harbour closed in 2007 with all cargoes transferred to Marsden Point. Cargoes handled include coal, clinker, bulk fertiliser, fruit, bagged cement, meat products, gypsum, timber products and crude/refined fuel oil products. Traffic figures: Approx 9,000,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: Refinery Jetty No 1: LOA 275m, displacement 163,000t, 125,000DWT, draught 15.2m. Marsden Point Cargo Terminal: Length & DWT unrestricted, draught 12.5m. Largest vessel handled: "Faedra", tanker, LOA 287m, beam 45.5m, 150,763DWT.
