The port is owned and operated by Sirte Oil Company, a subsidiary of the National Oil Corporation, and its primary function is the loading of general cargo, oil, and petrochemical products. It is important to note that Marsa el Brega is currently situated in an area affected by civil conflict, so caution should be exercised. Additionally, the port does not have a passenger terminal facility.
