General Description
Location: Mackay Harbour lies on the E coast of Queensland midway between Rockhampton and Bowen. It is approximately 950km N of Brisbane. General overview: The man-made harbour is contained within two breakwaters extending seaward providing a swinging basin with a width of 488m and an entrance channel with a width of 183m. The port serves a large sugar and grain growing area. Imports: Petroleum products, fertilisers, magnetite, mining machinery. Exports: Bulk raw and refined sugar, molasses, industrial alcohol, sugar cane invert, meat, tallow and grain. Traffic figures: Approx 2,307,000t of cargo and 160TEU handled annually. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: LOA 260m, beam 39m. Longest vessel: "Lia", LOA 231m, draught 7.6m, 68,444DWT, grain.
