General Description
Location: The Port of Hachinohe is situated in the Aomori Prefecture, on the NE coast of Honshu.
General overview: The Port of Hachinohe has become a central distribution port in the Tohoku region, it is protected by several breakwaters. The port is operated by Hachinohe Port Authority, it consists of 48 berths for both domestic and international trade.
Additionally, there are 7 fuel terminals for storing and supplying and an Air Base (Misawa Air Base) operated by US Air Force.
Hachinohe is also known as a major fishing port with one of the largest volume of seafood commodities in Japan.
Cargoes:
Main commodities handled include grain, cement, woodchip with exports including ferro-nickel, iron and steel. The port also has a car ferry terminal.
Traffic figures: Approx. 30,000,000t of domestic and foreign trade handled annually.
