Location: Chimbote is situated between Salaverry and Huarmey in Ancash Dept, at the N end of Bahia Ferrol. General overview: There are three concrete piers available where vessels have the option to either berth alongside or to anchor in depths of 9.4m to 12.8m and be unloaded by lighters. The port handles general cargoes, fish meal, iron ore and coke/coal. There are also five buoy moorings for tankers in Ferrol Bay to the S of Chimbote Port for loading fish oil and discharging oil products. Traffic figures: Approx 90 vessels are handled annually. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Dry Cargo Berths: LOA 230, draught 9.6m. MBM Berths: LOA 220m, draught 10.0m, 70,000DWT.
