General Description
Location: Port Lincoln is located at the southern tip of Eyre Peninsula, 682km from Adelaide by road, or approx 280km W of Adelaide by air. General overview: Port Lincoln is situated on two large bays between Cape Donnington and Point Boston, 5.25nm NNW. The S part is known as Proper Bay and the N part as Boston Bay. Port Lincoln includes Spalding Cove (34°36'S 135°58'E), Porter Bay (34°44'S 135°53'E) and Proper Bay, also known as Port Lincoln Proper (34°46'S 135°54'E). The town of Port Lincoln is situated in the SW part of Boston Bay. Port Lincoln is a natural deep water harbour which makes the port attractive to large bulk grain carriers for topping up loads from other ports in South Australia and Victoria. Grains and seeds are the principal exports, major imports are petroleum products and fertiliser. Traffic figures: Approx 90 vessels and 1,214,000t of cargo are handled annually.
