General Description
Location: The Port of Bacolod is positioned on the northwest coast of Negros Island.
General overview: The Port of Bacolod is serving as the central hub for the prominent sugar-growing region in the Philippines. The port encompasses six private port areas, namely Banago, Bredco, GD Fishing Corporation, Racahe, Sta Clara, and Sto Nino.
Banago port specializes in handling various cargoes such as sugar, vehicles, and general cargo. On the other hand, Bredco port focuses on the transportation of cement, fertilizers, and bulk or packaged cereals, with no provision for containerized cargo.
For loading and unloading activities, the anchorage point is Santo Nino, situated approximately 1.6 kilometers north of Bacolod. This location offers a water depth of 9.14 meters. However, it is important to note that the anchorage is exposed to the southwest monsoon and north wind.
At the small jetty, sugar is efficiently loaded onto barges, allowing up to four barges to be loaded simultaneously. The average loading rate for each group of porters is approximately 18 tons per hour.
