Location: Port Latta is situated on the NW coast of Tasmania. General overview: The port consists of a long steel pier, with a length of 1,830m, which carries an ore conveyor. Vessels secure to 6 buoys and lie off 2 protective dolphins E and W. The berth is weather affected in fresh NW, N'ly and NE'ly winds and swells, though it is classified as "safe" as pilot, tug and lifeboat crew are on active standby throughout. Oil is no longer imported through the port and the pipeline has been isolated. Cargo handled includes, iron ore pellets, iron ore concentrate. Traffic figures: The port handles approx 2,200,000t of iron ore products annually. Load line zone: Summer.
